The Value Of A Membership Site

Posted by on 31 August 2008

These days, it seems that everywhere you look there are membership sites. There are sites for every topic you can imagine - or so it seems. Don’t be fooled! There is still plenty of room for more, and many topics that have not been adequately covered in terms of membership sites.

A membership site is a site that caters to a specific group of people. Those who wish to access the community pay either a one time fee, monthly fees, or yearly fees. The owner of the site ensures that the content stays up to date, and that fresh content is added on a regular basis, to make sure that he or she retains those members.

The amount of money to be made from these types of sites varies greatly, and depends on the number of subscribers, the price of subscription, the cost of maintaining and operating the site, and of course retaining members. The average cost is about $20 per month, but there are those that command a much higher price.

In fact, depending on your content and your niche, you could charge upwards of $97 per month, per member. There are even those that charge higher prices, for highly targeted information that cannot be acquired from any other source. The more exclusive your content is, the more you can charge. It is as simple as that.

At one time, it took a great deal of technological skill, and a great amount of money to build and operate a membership site. That is no longer the case today. Technology has made great advancements, and starting these sites is easier and less expensive than it has ever been. Today it is easily done, and easily affordable. In fact, once the site has been built, the way that it operates is mostly automated.

As you can see, membership sites are highly valuable to the owners of those sites. These sites are used to create businesses, or to effectively add on to existing businesses. Thousands of dollars are waiting to be earned with membership websites. There are those already earning upwards of $20,000 per month with their websites.

Are Membership Sites for You

Posted by on 30 August 2008

There are basically two types of membership sites:

Free Sites

Paid for Sites

People on any membership Site have common goals and interests.

Free membership sites are often offered to a customer after they buy a product. In that way they will be sure to get any updates of the products, and/or support from the vendor. Also, a lot of Forums are in the form of free membership sites. In order to post threads you need to be registered, and have an ID and password.

There are free Forums for about any subject you can imagine. They are great places to go if you are trying to find a profitable niche market. Every Forum has its own special subject people have interest in. You listen to what people are talking about. The things they want, or need. The problems they want solved.
This way you would be able to give them the solution to their problem, by selling them the information they need, or the physical product they’re looking for.
And, of course you could belong to a forum because you are just interested in the subject.

Paid for Sites come in all sorts of forms:

Sites where you pay a monthly fee in order to use certain software. You often need to be a member,

in order to have access to certain keyword tools.

Sites where you pay to use PLR documents, and where you might get new PLR packages every month.

Forums, connected with Websites that provide Internet Marketing training.

The Marketing Training Forums can be very beneficial. You can go there as a Newbie and ask questions. And there might be some more experienced marketers there that will give you the answer you were looking for.

Of course some of these forums are better than others. If you do find a “Newbie friendly” forum, the monthly fee you pay is well worth it. And, once you become an expert, you will stay and help others.

Setting up a membership site isn’t all that complicated. And it gives you recurring income every month. But do your research and check on your competition. Make sure your site is unique and covers a not so well known subject, or approaches it in a novel way.

People that become members of a membership site, and then discover it wasn’t what they expected, can always cancel their membership. Just make sure you do that before the next month’s payment is due.

Overall, membership sites can be quite lucrative for the owners of one, and quite beneficial and/or educational for the members.

Creating a Membership Website - 3 Membership Website Ideas

Posted by on 28 August 2008

If you’ve been thinking that creating a membership website is a good way to create additional streams of online income - you are right. One of the first obstacles to overcome though is choosing the right type of membership site - one that will be both in demand and profitable. To help you get started, here are three ideas for profitable sites you can start building today.

Exclusive Content Sites

If you can uncover a high demand market, and provide exclusive content to that market through a paid membership website, you can quickly build a loyal and profitable subscriber base. The key here is to provide content that cannot be found anywhere else. For example, businesses owners are always looking for ways to increase their bottom line. If you created a membership site that provided audio interviews you conduct with other successful business owners explaining their marketing techniques, you might find your exclusive content to be a very powerful draw for potential members.

You can apply this idea to many other markets too, such as people interest in improving their athletic abilities, or people pursuing a course of self-improvement.

Insider Tips Sites

In many markets, people are on the lookout for insider tips and “secret” information that can give them an edge over their competition. If you are an expert in one of these areas, or can find someone who is, you can create a site that grants members private access to this type of insider information. Examples would include stock and investment tips, sports betting picks and sites that provide information on hard to find travel and vacation package deals.

Private Social Networking Sites

Social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook are very popular right now. While they are free, the downside is that anyone can join. Some entrepreneurs have started building private social networking sites though that limit membership to high paying subscribers in a particular market. This is perfect for people who realizing the value of networking and sharing information in a private and secure network.

Examples would include private membership to social networking sites designed exclusively for business people in a specific field such as network marketers, or collectors and dealers of rare and expensive items.

No matter which model you choose, as long as you focus on markets with a strong passion and money to spend and you provide information, content or services they can not find elsewhere, you will be on the right track to a profitable membership website.
