Create a Membership Site in 3 Easy Steps

Posted by on 30 September 2008

Membership websites used to be easy. There used to be a time when you could simply set up a membership site on a specific topic and get people to sign up right away and start collecting recurring income. That’s not the case anymore.

A lot of the improperly designed and setup membership sites often fail as soon as they launch. The content is not right or there is not enough valuable and unique content that the membership members want. It’s almost a free for all approach.

However, there are many savvy and knowledgeable marketers that have set up paid membership sites and got them to flourish. It’s a very simple approach that’s employed. These brilliant marketers create and offer their members frequent, unique and valuable content that the members want and are not able to get anywhere else.

In order to be successful, you got to have content (articles, audio and/or video) that creates a stir within your membership site members. They want stuff that they can use and helps to solve their respective problems or issues. Don’t feed them crap and expect your members to stick around.

You got to research your niche and find out what the people in that niche want and need. Do your homework and you have a chance at being successful.

Make certain that the niche you choose has enough people that care about it and willing to spend money on their craving. You can’t expect to get very far with your membership site unless there is a demand for the information you provide on the site.

You can’t expect wonderful things to happen with your paid membership site if the information you provide is easy to get elsewhere online for free. It’s necessary to be unique and provide quality content that is in demand by your members if you want to stay in business for a long time.

Don’t make your membership site too difficult to navigate. Keep it simple but always keep providing fresh and frequent content that will meet your membership needs.

What To Look For In Membership Site Software

Posted by on 29 September 2008

In the world of Internet marketing and money making, running your own membership site is a popular way to go. However, unlike other forms of earning a living online, running a membership site requires membership site software if you are going to do the job correctly. In this article, we’re going to point out some key things that you are going to want to look for when picking out software for your membership site.

The first thing you want to look for is reliability, not only in the software itself but in the company that is supplying the software. You want to make sure that they offer support for their product and even free installation. Usually the companies that have this service are the most reliable. They usually stand 100% behind their software as well.

The next thing you want to look for in membership site software is the actual features that it has. Not all software is the same. Most will plainly display the list of features that their software has. If not, write to the company and ask questions. Don’t make assumptions.

Another thing you want to look for in membership site software is compatibility with your web hosting account. Some software requires that you run PHP on your server, so if you’re running an ASP server, that particular software isn’t going to run.

Probably the last thing you want to look for in membership site software is price. The reason I say this is because, as with many things in life, you get what you pay for. If you’re looking at a piece of software that is selling for a very cheap price in relation to other brands, most likely is either has very few features or is not very stable. However, this is not always true as there is some very inexpensive software out there that is actually very good, surprised as I am.

In my signature, you’ll find a membership site software that is surprisingly excellent for the money. It doesn’t have all the features of the big boys, but at about 10% of the cost, it is very good. They have 24/7 support and do offer free installation. The software is weak in one area, that of affiliate management. However, since it supports 3rd party plug-ins, this is not an issue because one of the plug-ins is an excellent affiliate management program.

If you have the money, you may want to look into the higher priced software companies. The ones in the $4,000 to $5,000 price range pretty much have everything covered. But if $130 is all you can afford, then the site in my signature is probably the way you want to go.

Membership Sites - Continuity Income - The Income Model For Membership Sites

Posted by on 28 September 2008

Entrepreneurs employ a variety of business models. A business model is an overall structure around which someone builds their business. It involves everything from planning how income will be earned, to the sales process, to how products and services will ultimately be delivered out to customers or clients.

Some models are more conducive to particular types of businesses or industries; some are selected out of personal preference. Still others are deliberately chosen because they can make the entrepreneur more money faster, easier, and with less effort.

Income Models: How You Earn Your Money

There are many benefits attributed to a subscription-based model which outweigh other income models. Let’s take a look at some of the different types of models:

1. Trade your time for money. This is the most common and traditional of business models. This model is used the world over and is the basis for the employer-employee model. This is the same model used by many entrepreneurs, too. They think they are working for themselves, but they are actually working in a pseudo employer-employee model.

For example, most coaches and consultants and other independent business professionals trade their time for money. Their client is the “employer” and they are the “employee”. Nothing is all that different from working for a company. This model has many drawbacks, the main one being that you can only work so many hours in a day so you automatically top out on the amount of income you can earn.

2. Passive income model. The passive income model is one where you sell information or other products which do not require your actual intervention in any way. You can set everything up with an ecommerce system and you can literally make sales while you sleep. You no longer need to trade your time for money; you have an automated system. But passive revenue has its drawbacks too.

Income from this model is fairly unpredictable. Sure, you might make some money here and there, but in order to create more income, you’ll need to continuously employ various marketing strategies to promote interest. You can make money around the clock and now you can continue to trade hours for dollars and reap the benefits of having additional income through passive revenue channels.

3. The third income model relates to continuity income or continuous income. This is the model around which membership sites are built. Members pay a monthly subscription fee for access to your content and other members in the group. This income model has many benefits. First, you’re receiving regular income. As long as you have members, you’ll have income.

Also, this model is easily scalable. You can easily add members with very little expenditure of time, money, or energy on your part. You’re adding content regardless of the number of members. So the key is to increase membership. When you focus your marketing efforts on adding new members, every member you add is a future revenue stream. Contrast this with the passive income model, which in our case (not all cases) is assuming a one-time purchase and thus no income continuity.

There are additional income models beyond the ones outlined above. There are hybrids and other creative combinations which have been conjured up by enterprising entrepreneurs.
